Welcome!
Empowering Youth, Creating Impact
The Libertore Fund for Children, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides scholarships for at-risk youth in the avenues of sports and the arts. We believe that children of all ages should have the opportunity to develop to their full potential. Sports and the arts teach life skills, provide positive mentors, develop talents, build self-esteem, and resiliency.
Sports and cultural programs provide a safe and constructive outlet for students, keeping them off the streets, away from excessive smart technology use, and discouraging unhealthy behaviors. These programs create a positive environment where students can channel their energy and talents, productively. All these benefits pave the way for future success, truly “empowering futures through sports and the arts.”
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does the Process Take?
Once the application is received with all the required documents, it is sent to a committee for review. It takes 4 weeks for the review and set-up of the funding to be disbursed. We recommend having the application completed at least two months before the fees are due.
Do scholarships have to be repaid?
Scholarships are gifts to the recipients and only have to be repaid if the child doesn’t meet the requirement of attending 80% of the program or leaves the program. This is a commitment on the part of the family for the child to fully participate and use the funding as approved.
How much scholarship can we apply for?
The maximum amount is $3,000. The amount awarded will depend on the family’s financial need, the student’s school performance, and the costs related to the program.
Can we apply for more than 1 scholarship?
Yes, you can apply for more than one scholarship to a vendor approved by our team.
How does the disbursement of the scholarship work?
The parent or guardian will receive an acceptance email from the LibFund CEO, followed by a welcome email from chekspend.com with their virtual card and usage instructions. The card will only work at approved vendors for agreed-upon expenses.
If scholarship applications are closed for a quarter, when will they reopen?
The scholarships generally reopen on the first of the new quarter. It is based on funds available.
Sports Scholarship
The Larry Libertore Youth Sports Scholarship provides funds for young athletes to participate in the sport of their choice by playing in school sports, recreational leagues, and travel sports. The cost of fees and equipment are often barriers to a young athlete’s option to play and this scholarship removes those barriers.
Arts Scholarship
Our goal is to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent talented and motivated children from accessing the high-quality arts experience they deserve by leveling the field and opening opportunities to cultural experiences. Participation in the arts provides long-term benefits for low-income children, positively impacting various aspects of their lives.
