Our History
A Dream Becomes A Reality
Doug Libertore and his son Scott Libertore, who have both achieved significant professional success, were driven by a deep desire to make a meaningful impact on at-risk children and families. Over the years, they generously supported various charities, contributing both financially and with their time. However, they wanted to strengthen their connection with the organizations they supported and amplify the impact by helping more children than they could personally support. To bring this vision to life, The Libertore Fund for Children was founded in 2015 and officially established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in March 2016. This pivotal step enabled the organization to expand its reach and create a more lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of children in need.
Doug’s sister, Lana Swartzwelder, stepped into the role of CEO to lead the foundation and forge partnerships with other non-profits that share our mission of supporting at-risk children. “The Foundation has provided over $3,000,000 in funding for 58 non-profit agencies through grants and sponsorships since its inception.
Honoring a Legacy and Expanding Opportunities
In 2018, our foundation experienced a profound loss with the passing of Larry Libertore, Doug’s brother and Scott’s uncle. Larry’s life was a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that “Anything is Possible.” Despite being 5-foot 8-inches tall and weighing 138 pounds, Larry made an indelible mark on the University of Florida Gator football team, contributing to its notable victories. His success in sports propelled him into a distinguished career as a businessman, politician, entrepreneur, and community leader.
To honor Larry’s legacy and the impact sports had on his life, we established the Larry Libertore Youth Sports Scholarship. This scholarship provides underprivileged boys and girls with the opportunity to participate in sports. Through this program, we aim to help youth realize their dreams and gain the benefits of sports—skills, discipline, and teamwork—that can transform their lives.
In 2024, inspired by the success of our sports scholarship program, we expanded our efforts by introducing Scholarships for The Arts. This initiative is designed to offer youth opportunities to engage in culturally enriching activities. By fostering creativity and providing valuable experiences, the LibFund Scholarship aims to support the holistic development of children and equip them with skills essential for future success.
Both scholarship awards reflect our commitment to creating opportunities that empower young individuals to reach their full potential.
