New Life Center helps homeless women experiencing unplanned pregnancies find new life in Jesus Christ by meeting their spiritual, emotional and tangible needs.
While participating in their program, residents will pursue educational and employment opportunities as they strive to become independent, productive members of our society.
The organization was created in 2012 with the goal of supporting pregnant homeless women and teens in Polk County. There are currently no shelters for pregnant teens in Polk County. And very few shelters that will accept pregnant women (over age 18).
Their goal of opening a supportive housing facility (maternity home) has come true! On February 22, 2014 they secured a home that will house 2 homeless pregnant women (ages 18 & over), their babies & a full time Resident Director (house mother). The organization is focused on family preservation and our program reflects our focus by meeting the needs of homeless pregnant women, supporting them in their desire to keep and raise their baby. We are changing lives two at a time, mother and baby!
"Thank you for your continued partnership with our organization. We look forward to sharing our successes (and heartbreaks) with you."- Carolyn

The McKinney-Vento Act gives homeless students the right to remain in their school of origin (last school enrolled in or attended) during their period of homelessness and through the remainder of the school year upon which housing is obtained. The Act requires the Local Education Agency (the School Board) to provide transportation for the homeless students from their current place they are staying at to their school of origin - even if they are staying out of their school zone. This requires establishing new bus routes for the homeless The Hearth Project was able to purchase a van through a donation 3 years ago. The van is used to provide transportation to homeless students that have no way to school while they are waiting for that bus route to be arranged. This assists in minimizing the number of school days that students may miss while waiting for a bus route. We have also been using the van to take parents to teacher/parent conferences, to a school to initially enroll their children, and to other school related appointments."
